Der Sänger für die Krise

in kultur

In Party-Kellern,

Suzanne takes
you down to her place
near the river

schummrig beleuchtet mit Tropfkerzen, dazu Räucherstäbchen, Tee oder Lufthansa-Cocktail, vielleicht auch noch mit Schnittchen und „Käse-Igel“ sind viele dahin geschmolzen mit Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river - You can hear the boats go by - You can spend the night beside her - And you know she's half crazy - But that's why you want to be there - And she feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way fromChina - And just when you mean to tell her that you have no love to giveher - Then she gets you on her wavelength - And she lets the river answer - That you've always been her lover - And you want to travel with her - And you want to travel blind - And you know she will trust you - For you've touched her perfect body with your mind.

*Avalanche
(Songs of Love and Hate)
Well I stepped into an avalanche,
it covered up my soul;
when I am not this hunchback that you see,
I sleep beneath the golden hill.
You who wish to conquer pain,
you must learn, learn to serve me well.

You strike my side by accident
as you go down for your gold.
The cripple here that you clothe and feed
is neither starved nor cold;
he does not ask for your company,
not at the centre, the centre of the world.

When I am on a pedestal,
you did not raise me there.
Your laws do not compel me
to kneel grotesque and bare.
I myself am the pedestal
for this ugly hump at which you stare.

You who wish to conquer pain,
you must learn what makes me kind;
the crumbs of love that you offer me,
they're the crumbs I've left behind.
Your pain is no credential here,
it's just the shadow, shadow of my wound.

I have begun to long for you,
I who have no greed;
I have begun to ask for you,
I who have no need.
You say you've gone away from me,
but I can feel you when you breathe.

Do not dress in those rags for me,
I know you are not poor;
you don't love me quite so fiercely now
when you know that you are not sure,
it is your turn, beloved,
it is your flesh that I wear.

I'm Your Man

If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you
If you want a partner
Take my hand
Or if you want to strike me down in anger
Here I stand
I'm your man

If you want a boxer
I will step into the ring for you
And if you want a doctor
I'll examine every inch of you
If you want a driver
Climb inside
Or if you want to take me for a ride
You know you can
I'm your man

Ah, the moon's too bright
The chain's too tight
The beast won't go to sleep
I've been running through these promises to you
That I made and I could not keep
Ah but a man never got a woman back
Not by begging on his knees
Or I'd crawl to you baby
And I'd fall at your feet
And I'd howl at your beauty
Like a dog in heat
And I'd claw at your heart
And I'd tear at your sheet
I'd say please, please
I'm your man

And if you've got to sleep
A moment on the road
I will steer for you
And if you want to work the street alone
I'll disappear for you
If you want a father for your child
Or only want to walk with me a while
Across the sand
I'm your man

If you want a lover
I'll do anything that you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you
